The North Eastern Section were invited to participate in the annual Vintage and Classic Vehicle Weekend organised by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Our cars along with other marques were on display at Grosmont Station, whilst the stations at Pickering, Levisham and Goathland also had a wide variety of classic vehicles on display. All participants were offered half-price day rover tickets which enabled travel anywhere on the NYMR and including Network Rails Grosmont to Whitby section of the line.
Most of our members travelled on the 10:50 Grosmont to Pickering service that was steam hauled by ex LNER/BR Class B1 Locomotive No: 61264 that had been rescued from the famous scrapyard in Barry South Wales.
Some members stayed in Pickering while others returned on the same train through to Whitby. The last train of the day to back from Whitby was hauled by BR Standard Class 4: 75029, another 4-6-0 mixed trafic type but a little smaller and less powerful than the B1 and Black Five Classes already encountered.
Having safely brought us back to Grosmont this train continued on up to Battersby with an evening special on the Esk Valley line while the rest of us drove home after a thoroughly enjoyable day out.
