The commencement of the North Eastern Sections 2009 season got under way with a wonderful Sunday Lunch at The Honest Lawyer Hotel in the village of Croxdale situated just south of the Historic City of Durham.
This first event of the year was in some respects a very special day for the section, as it is 40 years since the section was formed.
As in true celebratory fashion we had a 40th Anniversary Cake, which was donated by Colin Hutchinson’s daughter who I must say bakes a canney cake as we say up north.
Some 36 members meet in the hotel bar for drinks and a chat catching up on all the gossip, before going through to the dining room for a Carvery Sunday Lunch.
After we all had been fed and watered our Section President Gordon Blacklock did the honourable thing and cut the Anniversary Cake, wishing us all well for the coming events.
In all it was a great way to start the new 40th Season of the North Eastern Section and lets just pray for better weather than last year.
