Alan Fearon's Garage & Mystery Tour - Sun 6th Sept 09
Susan and I had made a point of watching the weather on Tyne Tees Television in the week prior to this event and Philipa Tomson (the weather girl) had promised us a fine day. We really did need one for the destination we had chosen.
And so, on a cloudy but dry morning, 24 of us assembled at Alan's garage in Newcastle upon Tyne to put Susan's homemade scones to the test and to enjoy a cup of coffee or something a little stronger! We were pleased to welcome Brendan and James Joyce who were friends of Alan's but also members of the club.
Alan had a very nice selection of cars on view from both his collection and cars that were being repaired.
It was decided to announce our destination prior to departing to ensure that everyone knew where they were heading and with the rain starting to pour (wait while I see that Philipa Tomson!) 11 cars of the marque set out for Druridge Bay in Northumberland.
By the time we arrived, the weather had taken a turn for the worst but we had already made contingency arrangements as there is a nice room inside the visitor centre with a long table where we could all sit round and enjoy our picnics and each others company along with steaming cups of hot chocolate with marshmallows on the top! Just prior to this Alan had presented Gordon Blacklock with a small trophy for what he believed to be the best car on the run. None of us could argue about that. Gordon then set about telling James his life story and Gladys Hutchinson did the washing up!
I would like to thank Alan for giving up his day off and for allowing us to use his premises and for continuing to be enthusiastic about our section. Alan also supplied an excellent selection of goodies for those present and his lovely Silver Shadow for Susan and I to use on the day.
Many thanks to all of you who participated on this event which not even the weather spoilt too much.
